From 1969 to 1991, he established unprecedented progress & unity across the nation, dismantling deep clan divisions - but ultimately destroyed it in attempt to cling onto power amidst civil war. Part of his vision was “Great Somalia” - the annexation of ethnic Somali lands - which ended in a lost war against Ethiopia for the Ogaden region.
